ARTLANTIC Mixes It Up with Lance Fung
Tell us why you are holding mixers with locals.
The main goal was originally to learn what creative energy exists in AC and to get to know the local art community. Through the mixers, we have discovered that we are reaching a much wider local audience. These mixers are fun, allows for us to engage with the community and create an open dialogue. We realized that these mixers could evolve to benefit the community we are trying to reach in other ways. For instance, in September we are inviting artists from all ages and levels of accomplishment to come and show their artwork.Who have you met at the two mixers?
Attendees vary from artist, educators, community advocates, to those interested in what we are bringing to their neighborhood. Many who attend have shown support for our project by offering to volunteer, assist with outreach or other ways of partnering. It has been a wonderful way to begin work in AC. It’s starting to feel like a grassroots movement! How do you envision local artists and the local community becoming engaged in the project?
We have had a wonderful response from local artists and the local community so far and hope they continue to be interested and that everyone feels welcome. We are looking to offer opportunities to engage in this this project in every aspect from administration, getting the word out, designing printed materials to being included as an artist. In a few words, how should we describe your project to our friends, relatives and co-workers
The arts initiative between ACA, CRDA, and FC is about community building, beautifying the neighborhoods, and becoming a catalyst for highlighting the culture that is here and what we are bringing in to AC. (more...)
